About

After studying at Art college in the late 70's, I've spent five decades immersed in the creative world. It's been a long and rewarding journey towards realising my dream of becoming an artist. The many creative experiences I've gathered along the way have shaped a clear vision for where my art is heading.
My work is guided by an instinctive connection to the natural world - a constant source of inspiration and energy. I'm drawn to found and often "ordinary" objects, which I bring together in sculptural compositions that celebrate contrast and cohesion: stone, wood, metal, stainless steel and ceramics. Bringing together many elements of the natural world that can be unnoticed and items that are often discarded. I soften these by painting, oiling and polishing, giving them new life.
The inspirational landscape of the Costa Brava's Emporda region cannot be understated for me - its light, colour and texture shaped by The Pyrenees, the sea, the land and its rich vegetation. This is the land of Dali, Gaudi, Miro, Picasso Roura and many more - a place where creativity feels elemental. Whereas Eris Ravilious characterises East Sussex, where I live, with works of muted colours depicting a stark yet beautiful landscape incorporating the rolling hills of the chalk Downs.
I observe and collect nature's bounty in all its forms, waiting for the moment in my studio, when one found piece speaks to another allowing me to start creating a unique and beautiful sculptural piece.
Inspiration is everywhere leading me back to my East Sussex studio where my artwork is created.
